Second Month
The second month started off just as busy as the first month. We were still finishing our Christmas gifts and in the middle of the house renovation. Our house was a mess, which made it hard to be home all day with Grant. Also, I was under the impression I would have a ton of time once this baby was born to get things done and run errands. Wow, was I wrong. It wasn’t that I didn’t have the time, it was just so much more work getting out of the house. And Grant was still eating every 2 to 3 hours so once we were out, we didn’t have much time until the next feeding. It limits my excursions since I wasn’t confident enough to nurse in public quite yet. In the end, we got it all done and had a fantastic first Christmas with Grant!

Grant had multiple outfits this Christmas. This one is from our neighbor. Our little elf!

This one was from Great Aunt Connie. I had to capture that back during tummy time. Too cute not too.
Earlier in the month, we celebrated Grant’s baptism (December 17th) the same weekend as Tommy’s college graduation. This worked out well because family was in town. His baptism was after the 4:30 mass at Saint Francis. We were lucky because we were the only family having a baptism that night. After the baptism, we had a celebration at my (Amy’s) parents house. Our house was in disarray due to the renovation, so my parents were nice enough to open their house to us. We catered Jethros BBQ and had Costco cake (our favorite!).

Our cake. Grant wasn’t too happy about taking this picture.

The godparents!

Our family!
We celebrated Christmas eve eve and Christmas eve with the Chalik family. On December 23rd, we went to Des Moines Golf and Country Club for Santa’s last night and Grant met Santa! He wasn’t too impressed this year.

We went to church Christmas eve night, then off to continue the tradition of Christmas eve at the Sterns. Grant did awesome at church and had fun enjoying our Chalik family tradition. We didn’t get a pictures of his cute sweater since he had a rare spit up moment after church. That always seems to happen when you get kids dressed up, doesn’t it?

Our first Christmas eve together. So much fun!

The grandparents

The new uncles
Greg, Grant and I were able to celebrate Christmas morning and the arrival of Santa as a family of three. Christmas afternoon Grandma and Grandpa Young came down. We were unable to celebrate with the Myers family due to an outbreak of the flu at their house. We definitely did NOT want that transferred to our newborn, Grant! We were able to celebrate with them the next Saturday afternoon. It worked out perfectly because we were able to celebrate Grandma Young’s birthday at the same time! We had the Youngs side at our house and, let’s just say, it was a little chaotic. Greg and I will be way more prepared for next year. Overall, it was so much fun to make new traditions as “the Young family.”

The spread!

Grandpa and Grandma Young got to celebrate not one but TWO Christmases with Grant. Lucky ducks!

Another family picture of our first Christmas, because you can never have enough, right?!
Grant met some very special people this month.

All the cousins at Santa’s last night.

Great Aunt Nicki
Great Aunt Toni

Great Grandpa Dale

Heather and Great Aunt Connie. This was Great Aunt Connie’s second time meeting Grant, but it was such a great picture, how could I not post?!
And not pictured is Tracee. She flew all the way here to help me with Grant while Greg was at a work conference in Marco Island, Florida. It was nice to have someone here to keep me company. Grant and I missed Dad terribly and were pretty jealous he was in warm, sunny Florida without us.
Grant had his first milestone: his first smile! It made my day seeing that smile on December 28th! It was fun to watch him grow this month. He is much more awake and starting to engage with us. He loves his kick ‘n play piano and will stare and touch the hanging toys. He rolled from his front to his back a few times this month, more so because of his heavy head, but it counts right?? Watch the video below to see.

The first smile caught on camera. Those toothless smile are the absolute BEST.

He finished this month weighing in at 12 pounds 15 ounces. What a chunk-we won’t tell him I said that.He is still waking up once a night at this point, but we are starting to figure out the whole nap thing. We follow the “eat, play, sleep” thought. We feed him, let him play and interact until he gets fussy and then it’s nap time. We swaddle him up, rock him a little and he is out. We are hoping he continues to like his naps. Greg and I also got to experience multiple blow outs this month. Welcome to parenthood, right?!
Greg and I celebrated Grant’s 2 month birthday by a much needed date night. It was only our second date night out without him. (Thank you Grandma Chalik for watching him!!) It was nothing special but so great to get out and remember where everything started. Greg and I are a great team and I am happy to share this journey with him. We had a blast, but were definitely excited to get home to see our little man!

Looking back over these last few months, it amazes me how far we have come in this parenting thing; yet, how much we still have to learn.
