May 2023

We participated in May Day for the first time this year.  The boys had fun ringing doorbells and running away.  They wanted to wear their football jerseys and helmets so that people would think they were the real football players.  Blake was not injured on his fall.  He is out clumsy kid. They had a hard time understanding that even though we give the baskets out, we might not get any in return.  Grant was really sad about this.  A neighbor gave us one by the end of the night so the boys were happy!

Grant and Claire wanted to work out with me so we did some squats together!

We had a Mommy/Blakey day!  We played, went to the library, went out to lunch and played some more.  Nana joined us for a little bit at the library.  Blake said he had a good day so that is all that matters to me. It is so fun to have one on one time with each kid.

Grant has been playing soccer with VSA this spring and loving it!  He is getting way more aggressive and it is fun to watch.

Jackie came into town and I got to have a night out with her!  It was fun to see her and catch up with my friends!

We have had some beautiful weather this month so we have been trying to get the kids outside and much as possible.  They also love being outside after being cooped up all winter.  Claire especially loves outside and will go cry and the door saying "outside".  She doesn't quite understand we can't go outside if it is raining or too cold. This is the best I could get of a picture of all 3 of them.  It is tough to do sometimes.

The boys found the sunglasses Grandma got them for Valentine's day and they have been wearing them around.

I got to go to music class with Grant and see all he is learning and dance with him!  It was fun to see him at school!

I caught this cute picture of the 3 of them holding hands walking into daycare. So sweet and I have to catch on camera the moments these happen!

The kids love to dance so we have dance parties often.  Grant was so sweet and danced with Claire.  Blake was showing off his break dance skills to old school boy band music. Grant's new favorite song is "Low" so we listen to that inappropriate song often.

For some reason the kids love to lay on Greg's back when he lays on the floor. Claire will sit and loves when Dad moves side to side and she falls off.

I found this sock challenge on social media and we did it with the boys.  It was a blast and the boys loved it.

Grant showed me the "loser dance" the boys do at school.  We had to talk about how that is not appropriate.

Mother's Day this year was rainy and cold.  We made the best of it and went to ihop for breakfast and then to a few parks just to get out of the house. The boys were refusing to take a good picture but at least I got Claire looking at the camera.  She just followed her brothers around and has to be where they are.

Greg and I got to volunteer with Grant's class at the zoo.  We had so much fun and it was a perfect day for it. We had one of his friend's, Hudson and we got to see the whole zoo!

Grant had his first golf lesson with our neighbor who used to be a golf pro.  Grant had fun and did really well.  Greg bought soft balls to practice in our backyard and Grant responds better to Alex than Greg for teaching.

Claire loves sitting in these chairs and reading to her stuffed animals.  She was also putting 2 animals in the chairs and being the teacher.  And she loves putting the animals in that basinet and putting them to sleep.  It is just so cute to watch.

We got our new bedroom furniture this month!  I was nervous how it would turn out but it turned out great.  We had been waiting on this since January.  Now it is time to get rid of the old stuff and start shopping for new bedding and lamps!

Greg left early one morning to help Grandma with her grass before listing her house.  She bought a town house in Waukee and will be listing her house in Webster City soon.  We are so excited for her to be down here!  Grant wanted to show Greg the drawings he did.  Grant has been loving art lately and says he wants to be an artist when he grows up.

The kids had a morning dance party to Cocomelon and I am here for it!  It was fun to watch.

I wanted to have a Blake/Mommy day with just Blake before Grant was home for the summer.  We cuddled, played and let Blake make all the decision on what to do.  He doesn't get to do that very often being in the middle.  We got to see Grandma's new townhouse and go to lunch with Daddy, Grandma and Auntie Kellie. It was a fun day together!

The boys have been wanting to have a bath with Claire.  They had a blast but the bathroom was WET after the bath!  The kiddos giggles made it worth it.

Claire put her animals at her table and grabbed some books to read to them.  We moved the table and chairs to the play room because it was distracting and delaying bedtime. She loves that table!

We had a surprise Thursday May 25th when Greg texted me saying his stomach hurt and he thought it was his appendix.  He went to urgent care and then to the ER and eventually had to be transferred to Methodist downtown and wait to have surgery for the next day.  He didn't end up having surgery until 4:00 pm the next day! They just gave him pain medicine and he was out until the next dose.  When he came back to the room after surgery, he was still really out of it, couldn't keep his oxygen up and needed another dose of antibiotics so he ended up staying until the next morning.  We were both really happy once the surgery was over and Greg was SO much more comfortable.  The recovery was relatively easy but his lifting restrictions were the hardest part. He can't lift over 10 pounds so he can't lift Claire.  We are hoping that is only a few weeks until he goes to his follow up.

Grant had his last day of Kindergarten!  Grant was SO excited for summer and I have mixed feelings.  The year went by SO fast it makes me sad but it is also fun to watch him grow and learn.  We are so proud of Grant and all that he has accomplished this year.  He loves math the most and is very good at it.  He is also a very good reader.  His test scores were way above average and we love his desire to learn.  We hope that continues as he grows!

Grandma and I got to go to Grant's field day.  The silver lining of Greg's surgery being pushed back was that I was able to be there to watch Grant.  He looked like he was having a blast and was so excited Grandma was there too!

Blake has been in Hope soccer this spring.  He has a blast but it is usually when he is playing with his friends.  He likes soccer but also told me last week he didn't want to play because he was sweating.  Claire was exhausted during the game and Papa got some good snuggles!  It was the first hot game the last week. Greg has been coaching but was unable this game because of his surgery.

There is a place close to us that serves gluten free and dairy free ice cream options so, of course, we had to go and try it out.  The ice cream was great and we got there just in time.  It was packed when we were leaving.

I found some popsicles at Costco that Claire and Blake love.  So it officially feels like summer!  Of course, I go back to Costco to get more and can't find them!

I caught a rare moment when all 3 kids were in the playroom playing nicely!  I don't think this has ever happened before so it was a moment to capture.

I have noticed Claire talking so much more the past week.  She is talking about a waddling penguin here and it is just so cute to see.

Grant and Blake were supposed to have a special day home with Mom but Claire has been having diarrhea for almost a week and her diaper rash is horrible so she was home with us too!  We had to go to the library to sign up for the reading program so Nana came over to help me go out in public with 3 kids!  Then the boys were so excited we came home and read for about 30 minutes.  And the boys get their special day (without Claire) to go to the pool.  It was a fun day!

After nap time I got out the splash pad for the kids. Grant was so excited but Claire was very hesitant initially. Blake wanted to read in his bed for 30 minutes before coming out but they all ended up having a blast! We had such a fun day together! Summertime is so fun!

Grant is on Hive Pack Hoops and it has been a frustrating season for the team. It was fun to watch Grant score a free throw though. He was so proud of himself!

I tried to make cinnamon sugar sourdough bread and it still didn't turn out like I thought. The kids still wouldn't eat it which was my goal. AND it was a lot of work. So fail on that part but hoping to try bagels next and I have heard they are easier and better.
