8th Month

This has been quite a busy month for us with two trips and many new activities.

We celebrated Greg’s first Father’s Day.  Greg had a pretty good first Father’s Day, if I do say so myself :-). Greg was able to go on a bike ride with friends, golf outing with friends, got a new shirt, a bird feeder, Fathers Day waffles, and a family bike ride! It was pretty hot on our family bike ride so it did not last too long. We did get some cute pictures, though.

On the actual Father’s Day, Grant and Greg went up to Webster City to see Grandpa and Grandma Young and Great Grandpa Dencklau.  Grant made it back just in time to go to family dinner at the Chalik’s. Busy day for our little boy.

The next weekend we took a trip to visit Greg’s high school friends and families.  We rented a house on a small lake outside Lake Geneva.  It was a small but beautiful lake. It was crystal clear. I was interested to see how much chaos ensued with four families and seven kids in one house.  Emily and Louis ended up staying home due to sickness but overall, things went pretty smooth.  It was a perfect set up for the four families. Grant did well all weekend.  The worst part of the trip was the drive.  It was a five hour drive and a long way for Grant to be in the car seat.  Once we got there, Grant did great.  We rented a pontoon on Friday, which we all enjoyed.  Grant was able to get in the water and still wasn’t sure of what to think of the lake. Although, he was a trooper the whole day. The next day we went into town and were able to enjoy Lake Geneva.  It was a short, but fun trip; and it was great to catch up with all of Greg’s high school friends and families.

Mama loved me some baby cuddles! He was wiped out after our busy day in the sun.

Two weeks later we took another long trip to Lake Michigan. I was less worried about this trip knowing that he slept really well in Lake Geneva.  Grant did better with the drive this time and it was two hours longer.  Grant had so much attention from my family-he loved it!  He was scared at first, but after a day or so, he warmed up to everyone.  He loved the beach and lake!  We put him down in the sand and he did not fuss one bit.  We put him in the water also and he did not seem to mind that either.   He is going to be a beach bum like his Mama🙂.

We were happy Great Aunt Patti was in town the same week and got to meet Grant!  They even got to spend an afternoon together.

He learned how to put blocks in a bin and stack rings.  His coordination is getting so much better!

We have slowly been adding some finger foods to see what he thinks.  He is just now eating puffs.  I think it was a texture thing at first but he has caught on.  He will now eat bananas, avocado, cheese, etc.  He is getting so much better with his fingers.

Grant got his first tooth this month as well!  There was a lot of drool, some diarrhea and Grant chewing on everything in site. He was fussy for about a week until the tooth broke the gums.  One dose of tylenol or ibuprofen for some fussiness and pain and he was back to his happy self.  We were very lucky.

We still have a stationary baby.  He will pivot, turn and move backwards but no purposeful forward movement.  Greg and I are not too worried about this and actually enjoying our non-moving child.  Once he figures it out, he is going to be a busy boy!

He weighed in at 21 pounds 5 ounces this month.

Grant is on Hive Pack Hoops and it has been a frustrating season for the team. It was fun to watch Grant score a free throw though. He was so proud of himself!

I caught Claire playing in with the hot wheels cars while playing in her brother's Captain America mask. So cute!

I tried to make cinnamon sugar sourdough bread and it still didn't turn out like I thought. The kids still wouldn't eat it which was my goal. AND it was a lot of work. So fail on that part but hoping to try bagels next and I have heard they are easier and better.

Carson invited Blake to go to the pool with him and Blake had a blast (even if the picture doesn't show it!)
